Class Schedule: Part 2

Here is our new list of classes and clubs that will run for Sep – Dec at which time another list will be available. We have a great list of classes so don’t miss out.

We are starting the season with a “Class Launch” in both stores.  Surrey will have their class launch on Thus Sep 4 at 10:00am and Chilliwack will have a class launch on Thurs Sep 4 at 6:30pm during Cake Therapy.  Join us as we go over all the great classes and clubs we are running.  It’s a good time to see the samples, ask questions and register for classes.

Sign up for classes by Sat Sep 6 at 5:00pm and receive 10% off classes, clubs excluded.

Carpenters Wheel

Carpenters Wheel: Marti made a few changes to this traditional pattern to make it go together easily. Using the Marti basic template Set A each piece is precise and the piecing is perfect.

3D Flowers

3D Flowers: Make a lovely little wall hanging with 3-D flowers.  One piece of fabric for the background, one piece of fabric for the flowers, and another one for the stems and leaves.  All pieces are in your stash already!  If you have some beads to embellish the flowers, so much the better.  It’s a little piece of art that everyone will admire.  Hand died fabrics or bits of batik work really well for the flowers.

Swirly Whirly Tree:  Fusible web appliqué with your choice of outline stitches makes this little wallhanging come together quickly and easily. Lots of choices for a seasonal or themed project. One will be just the start.

Little Pieces Parts
Little Pieces Parts:  This bag was inspired by a quilt I saw in a magazine. It’s a great way to use up those scraps and make a tote bag. The bottom is squared off making it such a useful shape.

Quilt Block Challenge

Quilt Block Challenge: In January we started a monthly quilt block challenge and due to its great success we will be continuing.  Each month come in to the store and pick up your 5″ charm square and make a 12.5″ unfinished quilt block using this fabric somewhere in the block.  The block needs to be handed in by the last day of the month.  Over the next month all the customers in the store will have a chance to vote on the blocks.  The viewer’s choice will win a $25 gift certificate, we will also have a random draw winner for a $10 gift certificate.   Block must be pieced or appliqued and can contain appliqué or embroidery.  All quilt blocks will be donated to make charity quilts.

Win Fabric for a Year: We have decided to continue our win fabric for a year contest as the charities have been so thrilled to receive the quilts and have raised hundreds of dollars auctioning them off.  Create a quilt in the year 2014 by Sat Oct 18 and enter to win fabric for a year.  See rules in the store. At the end of our Contest we will hold a quilt trunk show to give everyone a chance to see the amazing entries that are donated.  Random draw winner will receive $100 gift certificate/ month for 12 months; viewers choice winner will win $50 gift certificate/ month for 12 months.

Square in a Square

Square in a Square Club: Jodi Burrows wanted to find an easy way to create amazing quilt blocks so she created the square in a square ruler system.  Come and learn new simple ways to make quilt blocks.  Find out how simple it can be to put together a variety of perfect quilt block.  You can join this club any month and learn this great technique.  We make a different block each month.

Christmas Club

Christmas Club: Using the new Modern Holiday Christmas projects book by Amanda Murphy as a guide, students will stitch a variety of both projects and quilts over the span of the year. The final 2 projects will be the pillow and stocking. It will be up to each individual student as to whether they choose a “modern” or “traditional” look for their fabrics. Supply list available.

Jacobean Journey

Jacobean Journey Quilt: With HoopSisters you can make perfectly quilted, pieced, and decoratively stitched quilt blocks all in the hoop of an embroidery machine.  The 2014 EmbroidaBlock of the Month program combines the fun and unique HoopSisters technique with designed and digitized quilting by Sharon Schamber,   A centre medallion is surrounded by an inner border of beautiful appliqué flowers.   There is also an optional double French braid border design that also has its own quilted wall-hanging to coordinate with this heirloom quilt.  Make it with four fabrics in the top, or choose a “whole cloth” variation with only one fabric – it’s your choice. This is a great way to start using your embroidery machine! Come in and see our sample, this truly is a work of art.  Pattern is only available by taking the class.  Pattern available for all machines in sizes 5″, 6″, 7″, 8″, 9″.  Class started Jan but it’s not too late to start.

Embroidery Club

Embroidery Club for All Embroidery Machines: We are starting a whole new embroidery club with a whole new line up of projects. We will learn how to cut up embroidery patterns to make a pumpkin, make a fun in the hoop mug rug and learn to embroider with Angelina fibers while making a beautiful lace snowflake.  All great projects that would make great gifts and just fun to make. This club has been designed to work on all current brands and models of embroidery machine with a min 5″ x 7″ hoop, if you are not sure if your machine will work give us a call to confirm.  This club is a great way for the beginner or the experienced embroiderer to become more familiar with their embroidery machine.  There will be a new project each month with new techniques learned each month.

Blessings of Winter

Blessings of Winter Block of the Month: This wonderful quilt celebrates all the joys of crisp winter days with plenty of snowflakes, snowmen, ice skates, hot cocoa, and so much more!  Die-cut felt snowflakes make appliqué easy, while a variety of embellishments add sparkle and interest.  Each month’s kit will include the pattern (with full-color block photos), fabrics, and embroidery floss to complete one block.  Finished Size 55″ x 63″

Cake Therapy

Cake Therapy and Beyond: We have a whole new line up of fun classes and patterns this year for Cake Therapy.  If you haven’t already attended Cake Therapy, then it’s time you did and find out what you are missing.  All we are going to tell you is it takes place once a month at both stores and there are NO FEES for these sessions, but there will be cake!  And of course laughter, friends, coffee and tea!  What quilter doesn’t need a little “Therapy”, so sign up today to reserve your spot.

These evenings continue to be very popular! Sewing Machine Level 1:  This class will cover the basics of learning to operate your machine.  Threading your machine, winding your bobbin, tension top and bottom , straight stitch, stitch length dials, stitch width dials, needle up and down buttons, reverse, tension on zig  zag ,dropping feed dogs, needle positions, presser foot pressure, threads.  For those of you who just purchased a sewing machine at Tom’s or Countryfolk this would be lesson number 1.

Sewing Machine Level 2: This class includes different types of buttonholes blind hem , rolled hem, sewing on buttons, stretch stitches, and other stitches on your machine.  Learn how important and useful your machines stitches are.  For those of you who just purchased a sewing machine at Tom’s or Countryfolk this would be one of your FREE lessons.

Sewing Machine Level 3:  Level 3 is about computerized machines.  Decorative stitches, programming, memory , elongating stitches, balancing stitches.  You will be able to use more of those decorative stitches on your machine.  For those of you who just purchased a sewing machine at Tom’s or Countryfolk this would be one of your FREE lessons.

Serger Level 1

Serger Class Level 1: Do you have a serger, but don’t understand threading and tensions? This course will teach you how to thread your machine, balance your tensions, lock that stitch at the end of your seam and sew: inside corners, outside corners, inside curves and outside curves. The class manual is $25.00 but, if you sign up for at least three classes at once, the manual is half price.

Serger Level 2

Serger Class Level 2: In level 2 we move onto 3-thread serging. You will learn about 3-thread wide, 3-thread  narrow, 3-thread decorative, rolled hem, lettuce edge, pin tucks and spaghetti straps.
